The Emergency Department (ED) at Alleghany Health is here for your emergency medical needs 24/7/365. Our board-certified physicians and skilled nursing staff provide a comprehensive assessment of your illness or injury while determining the level of care and treatment that you need.
We routinely handle broken bones, acute injuries from falls or accidents, heart attacks, chest pains, and strokes. As a designated stroke center, local EMS can transport patients with stroke-related symptoms directly to Alleghany Health ED where our staff is trained to assess and administer thrombolytics, “clot buster” drugs, within the allowable time frame as designated by the NC Office of Emergency Medicine Services.
In certain critical conditions where a higher level of care is required, our staff works closely with Wake Forest Baptist Health or Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin to coordinate transportation via ambulance or helicopter.
Upon arrival at the ED, patients register, and a triage nurse will evaluate your condition before being seen by a doctor. Please try and have a list of your medications if possible.
Every patient is important to us, and we strive to provide the most advanced, compassionate care in the shortest time possible. Please understand, however, that your wait will depend on the urgency of your emergency and the number of other patients waiting for care.
